Peoria, IL – A 33-year-old man was taken into custody Friday morning after allegedly firing multiple rounds near a South Peoria residence.
According to the Peoria Police Department, officers responded at approximately 10:25 a.m. to the 700 block of South Warren after a Shot Spotter alert indicated nine rounds had been discharged. Upon arrival, police spoke with a 68-year-old man who reported someone had fired shots at him while he was standing outside his home. No injuries were reported.
Investigators identified the suspect as Kyle T. Smith, 33, during the on-scene investigation. Police said Smith admitted to firing the shots in an attempt to scare the victim. He was arrested on charges of aggravated discharge of a firearm, aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a firearm without a valid FOID card.
Smith was transported to the Peoria County Jail. Authorities noted that all suspects are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
