PEORIA, Ill. – After a damp start Friday, skies will gradually clear across central Illinois, setting up a mild, comfortable stretch through the weekend. The National Weather Service in Lincoln reports isolated showers today with a 20 percent chance of brief rain, mainly along and east of I-55.

According to the agency, high temperatures will hover in the low to mid-70s Friday and Saturday, climbing into the upper 70s to near 80 degrees by Sunday and early next week. Overnight lows will dip into the 40s and low 50s, keeping mornings cool but afternoons pleasant.

The warming trend will continue into Monday and Tuesday as a ridge of high pressure settles over the Midwest. Rain chances remain minimal, with only a 20–30 percent chance of spotty showers through early next week. Winds will stay light, allowing for calm conditions across most of the region.

Farmers wrapping up harvest and residents planning outdoor events should find generally favorable weather. However, NWS forecasters recommend staying alert for patchy morning fog in rural areas and cooler overnight temperatures that could affect sensitive plants. Drivers are encouraged to watch for slick spots early today where brief showers may dampen roadways.

Cooler air could return midweek as the next front approaches from the Plains, but for now, central Illinois enjoys one of fall’s most comfortable stretches so far.
