Peoria, IL – Three men have been charged with First-Degree Murder following a week-long investigation into the fatal shooting of a 15-year-old boy in Peoria earlier this month.

According to the Peoria Police Department, 18-year-old Jaxson Robinson, 18-year-old Curtis E. Jones, 27-year-old Jafari A. Robinson, and 18-year-old Cortez D. Smith were identified as persons of interest after the Oct. 1 shooting on the 2000 block of N. Sheridan Road. The victim was found inside a residence with a gunshot wound and pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say Jones and Jafari Robinson were taken into custody without incident and initially charged with Concealment of a Homicide and Obstructing Justice. Smith was located and detained several days later. On Thursday, Oct. 9, members of the U.S. Marshals Service Task Force and Peoria Police’s Special Investigations Division arrested Jaxson Robinson on McClure Avenue.

Jaxson Robinson, Jafari Robinson, and Cortez Smith have since been charged with First-Degree Murder by the Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office. Police confirmed the investigation remains active.
