Peoria, IL – Two men were arrested Tuesday night after Peoria Police allegedly found a loaded handgun during a traffic stop near the intersection of Arago Street and Hayes Avenue.
According to the Peoria Police Department, officers conducted the stop around 7:25 p.m. on January 13, 2026, and made contact with five occupants inside the vehicle. Police say they established probable cause to search the car, leading to the discovery of a loaded firearm.
As a result of the investigation, 19-year-old Karon H. Hopkins was arrested for Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon, Aggravated Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Obstructing Justice, Unlawful Possession of Firearm Ammunition Without a FOID Card, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, and Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device, according to authorities.
Additionally, 24-year-old DeAngelo D. McCoy was arrested on active warrants. Both individuals were transported to the Peoria County Jail following the arrests.
