Peoria, IL – An 18-year-old woman was hospitalized early Sunday after being shot at a Bradley University dormitory, according to the Peoria Police Department. The incident occurred around 2:14 a.m. on Oct. 19 in the 900 block of N. Duryea Place on the university’s campus.

Police said the victim, who is not a Bradley University student, sustained a gunshot wound to the abdomen. She was transported by ambulance to a local hospital and is listed in stable condition.

According to authorities, the suspect — Edward A. Traywick Jr., 19, of Lansing, IL — was also not a student but a guest of one. Traywick was arrested on multiple charges, including unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a firearm under 21, and reckless discharge.

Bradley University Police quickly secured the dorm and confirmed there was no ongoing threat to students. Both the suspect and the victim were visiting the campus at the time of the shooting.

Peoria Police are leading the investigation in coordination with Bradley University Police and the Illinois State Police. The university reiterated that firearms are strictly prohibited on its property and that violations will result in appropriate legal and disciplinary action.
