A Peoria man is facing multiple charges after a home invasion early Friday morning. According to the Peoria Police Department, officers responded to a call at 7:27 a.m. on April 4th, 2025, reporting that a male suspect had forcibly entered a residence in the 1200 block of SW St. Martin Drive. The suspect, later identified as 33-year-old Ishmiel D. Gates, stole the victim’s vehicle and fled the scene.
Police quickly located the stolen vehicle in the 400 block of W. Hansler, but when officers approached, Gates sped off at a high rate of speed. Officers did not pursue the vehicle in accordance with department policy. While fleeing, Gates lost control of the vehicle, crashing into a house in the 1500 block of W. Wilcox. Fortunately, no one inside the home was injured. Gates then fled the scene on foot.
A brief foot pursuit ensued, and Gates was apprehended near the Gale WB ramp of I-74. He was arrested and charged with multiple offenses, including resisting police, home invasion, domestic battery, criminal damage to property, unlawful possession of a stolen motor vehicle, burglary, aggravated fleeing, reckless driving, and traffic violations.
Gates was transported to the Peoria County Jail. Anyone with information about this case is encouraged to contact the Peoria Police Department at (309) 673-4521 or Crime Stoppers at (309) 673-9000.
