Peoria, IL – Two 18-year-old men are facing multiple felony charges after police say a single-vehicle crash early Saturday led to a foot pursuit, the recovery of illegal drugs, and the discovery of multiple firearms on Peoria’s South Side.

According to the Peoria Police Department, officers were dispatched around 12:27 a.m. Saturday to the area of SW Jefferson Avenue and Fulton Street for a report of a single-vehicle crash involving a car that had struck a gate. When officers arrived, they learned that two male occupants had fled the vehicle on foot.

Police say one of the fleeing suspects, later identified as 18-year-old Connor A. Maquet, was located nearby and taken into custody after a brief foot pursuit. During the investigation, officers searched the crashed vehicle and allegedly discovered illegal narcotics inside.

Officers also recovered a discarded handgun along the initial flight path of the suspects. A second handgun was later located along Maquet’s individual flight path, police said.

Maquet was transported to the Peoria Police Department for an interview and was later arrested on multiple charges, including Aggravated Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Unlawful Possession of a Handgun, Unlawful Possession of a Handgun with Defaced Identification, Possession of a Firearm Without a Valid FOID Card, and Unlawful Possession of Firearm Ammunition Without a FOID Card.

Police said the second suspect, identified as 18-year-old Shane M. Fisher Jr., was located and arrested on Monday, December 29. Fisher is facing charges including Armed Violence, Aggravated Unlawful Possession of a Weapon Under 21, Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminal Damage to Property, Resisting Police, and Obstructing a Peace Officer.

Both individuals were transported to the Peoria County Jail.
