Peoria, IL – Peoria police are investigating a violent vehicular hijacking that left one woman injured Wednesday evening and a stolen vehicle later abandoned on the city’s south side.

According to the Peoria Police Department, officers responded at approximately 5:51 p.m. Wednesday to reports of a vehicular hijacking in the 3400 block of North Prospect Road, a busy commercial corridor in Peoria, Peoria County.

Police say the vehicle owner reported that his car was parked and running in a business parking lot while an adult female sat in the passenger seat. While the owner was inside the business, an unknown male suspect allegedly entered the vehicle from the driver’s side and demanded the woman exit the car.

When the passenger refused, police say the suspect allegedly struck her in the face. The victim then exited the vehicle, at which point the suspect allegedly moved into the front passenger seat. A second unknown male suspect then entered the driver’s seat, and the two fled the area in the stolen vehicle.

The woman sustained minor injuries during the incident but declined medical treatment at the scene, according to police.

Approximately 30 minutes later, officers located the stolen vehicle abandoned in the 900 block of East Wilson Street, several miles from the initial incident location. No suspects were found with the vehicle.

At this time, no suspect descriptions have been released, and the incident remains under active investigation.
