Peoria, IL – Peoria Police arrested a 21-year-old man early Wednesday morning following a high-speed fleeing incident and the discovery of multiple firearms and conversion kits.
According to the Peoria Police Department, officers attempted a traffic stop around 12:18 a.m. on Wednesday, January 14, near Fremont Street and Griswold Street for vehicle violations. The driver reportedly fled the scene at a high rate of speed, and officers did not pursue.
A short time later, officers located the abandoned vehicle in the 2300 block of West Marquette Street. A search of the vehicle revealed a 9mm handgun, three magazines, and two micro conversion kits.
Police later identified and located the suspect, 21-year-old Amarion Johnson, at a residence in the 2400 block of West Antoinette Street. A search of that home reportedly uncovered another handgun with an extended magazine that was determined to be stolen.
Johnson was arrested on several charges, including Possession of a Firearm without a Valid FOID Card, Possession of a Stolen Firearm, Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding, Traffic Violations, and an Active Warrant. He was transported to the Peoria County Jail.
