Peoria, IL – Child Dies After In-Flight Medical Emergency at Airport

Peoria, IL – An 8-year-old girl died after an in-flight medical emergency forced a commercial plane to land at Peoria International Airport on Thursday morning.

According to the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the emergency around 7:00 a.m. after the flight, which originated from Joplin, Missouri, was diverted from its intended destination in Chicago. Upon landing, deputies, AMT personnel, and Air National Guard firefighters immediately provided life-saving measures to the child. She was transported to a local hospital by AMT, where she was pronounced dead. Authorities are requesting thoughts and prayers for the family and those involved in the incident.
