Peoria, IL – A 16-year-old girl escaped unharmed Tuesday afternoon after two suspects allegedly attempted to steal her vehicle on Peoria’s North California Avenue, according to Peoria Police.

Authorities say the incident occurred around 3:56 p.m. on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, in the 2800 block of North California Avenue. The teen told officers she was sitting in her vehicle when two unknown males approached and told her a wallet was on the ground behind her car. When she stepped out to look, one suspect allegedly grabbed her by the arm, shoved her, and demanded her car keys.

According to police, the teen refused to hand over the keys, and the two males fled the area on foot. Officers later canvassed the neighborhood but were unable to locate the suspects. No injuries were reported.
