Peoria, IL – A Danville man was sentenced Monday, September 8, 2025, to life imprisonment without parole after being found guilty of carjacking, murder, and drug trafficking.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Kevin Marshall, 35, received four life sentences plus 10 additional years for firearm possession at a hearing before U.S. District Judge Colin S. Bruce in Peoria. The sentencing followed Marshall’s August 2024 federal trial, where evidence showed he lured Daniel Walter, 33, from his truck in April 2020 before shooting him multiple times and stealing his vehicle, phone, and wallet.

Prosecutors said Marshall later sold methamphetamine throughout the summer of 2020 before his arrest that August. A Taurus handgun recovered at the time of his arrest was linked to Walter’s murder and several shootings in Danville earlier that year.

A federal grand jury indicted Marshall in 2021, with additional charges filed in 2023. During trial, prosecutors presented evidence of Marshall’s attempts to obstruct justice, including witness tampering and ordering deletions of online records. The jury convicted him on all counts.

Judge Bruce emphasized Marshall’s history of violence, including a prior 2013 second-degree murder conviction, in imposing the sentence. Officials said the punishment was necessary to protect the public.

“The defendant’s violent murder of Daniel Walter, along with his armed distribution of dangerous drugs in our community, show a chilling disregard for human life,” Acting U.S. Attorney Gregory M. Gilmore said.

The Danville Police Department, FBI, Illinois State Police, and other agencies assisted in the investigation.
