Peoria County, IL – A Peoria County contractor faces fraud charges after multiple residents reported paying for work that was never completed.

According to the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office, detectives arrested Christopher Sloan, who operates a business called Danco Heating and Cooling, following several complaints related to alleged home repair fraud.

Investigators said Sloan was taken into custody Monday and booked into the Peoria County Jail on several counts, including Home Repair Fraud, Theft, and Deceptive Practices. Authorities say the investigation began after residents reported paying deposits for heating work that allegedly was never performed.

In one reported case, detectives said an elderly victim paid Sloan $3,400 as a down payment for a new furnace installation. According to investigators, installation appointments were repeatedly scheduled but Sloan allegedly failed to appear. Detectives said the delays were reportedly explained with excuses ranging from illness to hospitalization before the homeowner eventually contacted authorities after more than a month.

The sheriff’s office said three victims have been identified so far in connection with the investigation involving Sloan and the heating and cooling business.

Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing and additional victims may exist. Detectives are asking anyone who may have paid Sloan or hired Danco Heating and Cooling for work that was not completed to come forward.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Demery with the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office at 309-216-4775.

Consumer protection officials frequently warn homeowners to verify contractor credentials, obtain written agreements, and avoid large upfront payments when scheduling major home repairs.

For younger renters, students, and first-time homeowners entering the housing market, fraud cases like this highlight the risks of unverified contractors.
