Investigators said the van, driven by a man from Oak Park, Illinois, veered into the gravel shoulder before overcorrecting and crossing into a northbound lane closed for construction.
The van struck an excavator, ejecting the operator from the equipment. Deputies said the worker sustained a hand injury and a cut to the head but remained conscious and alert at the scene. He was transported by AMT to a local hospital for treatment.
