Pittsburgh, PA – A mix of snow and freezing drizzle will create hazardous travel conditions along Interstate 80 on Christmas Eve morning.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 4 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday. A brief burst of snow near sunrise will rapidly transition to freezing drizzle, resulting in slippery roads and a light glaze of ice in areas like Ligonier, Donegal, and the Higher Elevations of Fayette County. Commuters should allow extra time for their morning and evening travel.

Local authorities urge drivers to reduce speeds and avoid sudden braking. The heaviest snow is expected before sunrise, with conditions improving slowly by late afternoon. Emergency officials recommend having an ice scraper, blankets, and food supplies in vehicles.

Temperatures will remain near freezing Wednesday, with the risk of refreezing overnight. The five-day forecast predicts calmer weather by the weekend.
