Pennsylvania Winter Warning: Cold Weather Advisory in Effect for Pittsburgh Region Until Wednesday Afternoon

Pittsburgh, PA – Residents in western Pennsylvania are bracing for dangerously cold weather today as temperatures remain well below zero. A cold weather advisory is in effect until 1 p.m. Wednesday, with wind chill values ranging from -15 to -20 degrees.

According to the National Weather Service in Moon Township, extreme cold can cause frostbite in as little as 30 minutes on exposed skin. Residents are urged to bundle up with hats, gloves, and layers if venturing outside. The advisory also warns that hypothermia is a risk with prolonged exposure to the frigid conditions.

The forecast for today includes increasing clouds and a high near 12 degrees. Wind chill values will hover around -11, with winds becoming southerly at 6 mph in the afternoon. Tonight, temperatures will dip to a low of 6 degrees, with mostly cloudy skies.

Looking ahead, a slight warming trend will begin Thursday, with highs climbing to 27 degrees and increasing clouds. By Friday, highs will reach 23 degrees, while Saturday brings partly sunny skies and temperatures near 31 degrees. Despite the improvement, wind chills will remain a concern through the week.

Drivers traveling along I-79 and other roadways are advised to prepare for icy conditions and ensure emergency kits are in their vehicles. Pets should also remain indoors as much as possible during this extreme weather event.
