Pittsburgh, PA – A Winter Storm Warning will go into effect early Wednesday, bringing snow, strong winds, and hazardous travel conditions across western Pennsylvania. Rain from an approaching cold front will transition to snow overnight, creating slick roads and reduced visibility by morning.

According to the National Weather Service, the warning begins at 1 a.m. Wednesday and lasts through 4 a.m. Thursday. Wind gusts up to 31 mph are expected, especially along I-79 and I-70, where drivers are urged to proceed with caution. Snowfall is forecast to range between 2 to 4 inches in Pittsburgh, with higher totals possible in elevated areas.

New Year’s Day will begin with snow showers and temperatures dropping to 25°F. Wind chills will make it feel even colder. Those heading out for holiday plans should prepare for icy sidewalks and delayed travel. Snow showers will taper off by Wednesday evening, but scattered flurries may persist into Thursday morning.

Looking ahead, Thursday is expected to remain cold, with highs near 33°F. Friday will bring additional snow showers and a high of 31°F, while Saturday stays cloudy with temperatures near 27°F.

Residents are advised to monitor weather updates and plan accordingly. Travel disruptions are likely, and officials recommend keeping an emergency kit in vehicles.
