Jim Thorpe, Pa. – Strong northwest winds are rattling the Southern Poconos this Sunday, as gusts up to 50 mph threaten to down tree limbs and knock out power across Carbon and Monroe counties.
According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, a Wind Advisory remains in effect from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. today for Jim Thorpe, Stroudsburg, and surrounding areas. Winds between 15 and 25 mph will intensify through the afternoon, with the strongest gusts striking higher terrain and ridges.
Drivers, especially those with high-profile vehicles, should prepare for difficult travel on Route 209, Interstate 80, and other exposed roadways. Residents are urged to secure outdoor furniture, trash bins, and other loose items. Brief power outages may occur if limbs fall onto utility lines.
Area schools and businesses should monitor conditions and be ready for unexpected disruptions. Today’s wind event marks one of the strongest gust episodes this spring, reminiscent of last year’s late April windstorm.
The advisory remains in place through 5 p.m. Sunday, with updates possible if winds intensify or outages increase. Residents should stay alert for additional warnings throughout the day.
