Philadelphia, PA – A mix of freezing rain and heavy precipitation could create hazardous travel conditions across Pennsylvania starting Friday night. Residents and travelers are urged to prepare for possible delays and slippery roadways, especially along the Pennsylvania Turnpike and I-195 corridor.

According to the National Weather Service, precipitation is expected to move into the area late Friday night, with freezing rain possible early Saturday morning. Areas north of the Pennsylvania Turnpike may see light ice accumulation, less than one-tenth of an inch, which could lead to dangerous road conditions. Rain is predicted to intensify throughout Saturday and persist into Sunday, with breaks possible between showers.

Temperatures will rise significantly over the weekend, reaching highs in the 50s on Saturday and Sunday. Thunderstorms are also possible late Sunday night, which may bring localized flooding. Motorists should monitor road conditions closely and allow extra travel time, particularly in areas prone to freezing rain or pooling water.

The warming trend will help transition freezing rain to rain early Saturday. While widespread severe weather is not anticipated, the National Weather Service recommends keeping an eye on updated forecasts and avoiding unnecessary travel during peak rain periods.

The five-day forecast shows milder conditions next week, but Monday may see lingering showers before drier weather returns. Stay tuned for updates as weather patterns evolve.
