Philadelphia, PA – Strong winds and periods of rain are set to move through the Philadelphia region Friday, creating difficult travel conditions and raising the risk of downed tree limbs and isolated power outages.
According to the National Weather Service, a Wind Advisory is in effect from 1 a.m. Friday through 1 a.m. Saturday for southeastern Pennsylvania, including Philadelphia and surrounding suburbs. Southwest winds of 20 to 30 mph are expected, with gusts up to 45 mph overnight into Friday morning before winds turn west behind a cold front later in the day.
The worst travel impacts are likely during the Friday morning commute, especially on I-95, I-76, the Schuylkill Expressway, and area bridges where crosswinds may be strongest. High-profile vehicles could struggle in exposed areas, and unsecured holiday decorations or trash bins may be blown around neighborhoods. Rain develops overnight and continues into Friday, briefly reducing visibility before tapering off by evening.
Conditions improve Friday night as winds ease and skies clear. Cooler but quiet weather settles in for the weekend. Looking ahead, the pattern appears calmer by midweek, with Christmas Eve on Wednesday currently trending dry and seasonable, favorable for holiday travel and last-minute plans.
The Wind Advisory remains in effect into early Saturday, and additional updates may be issued if conditions change.
