Clearfield, Pennsylvania – Drivers across central Pennsylvania should prepare for deteriorating travel conditions beginning Wednesday afternoon as a multi-hour snow event spreads across the region and lingers into early Thursday.
According to the National Weather Service in State College, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from midday Wednesday through mid-morning Thursday for portions of central Pennsylvania. Snow is expected to develop early Wednesday afternoon, with periods of heavier snowfall possible later in the day and into Wednesday evening. Total accumulations are forecast to range from 2 to 5 inches.
Counties under the advisory include Warren, McKean, Potter, Elk, Cameron, and Clearfield. Communities such as Clearfield, DuBois, Bradford, Coudersport, St. Marys, Ridgway, Emporium, and Warren are likely to see snow-covered roads, especially during the Wednesday evening commute. Brief snowfall rates near an inch per hour could lead to rapid deterioration of driving conditions on untreated roads, bridges, and higher-elevation routes.
Snow intensity is expected to ease late Wednesday night, but lighter snow may continue into early Thursday morning. Slick spots are likely to persist during the Thursday commute, particularly on secondary roads and rural highways.
Motorists are urged to slow down, allow extra travel time, and check Pennsylvania 511 for the latest road conditions before heading out. Additional updates or advisories may be issued if heavier snow bands develop or persist longer than expected.
