Pittsburgh, PA – Two rounds of fall showers are sweeping across western Pennsylvania today, with gusty winds possible by tonight as a passing front brings another push of cooler air. Morning rain will be light and scattered, but the second wave after sunset could produce a brief heavier burst and wind gusts up to 40 mph.
According to the National Weather Service office in Pittsburgh, temperatures will hold near normal levels, with highs ranging from the upper 50s to mid-60s across the region. The stronger line of showers is expected to arrive between 7 p.m. and midnight, mainly along and south of I-80, before tapering off toward early Wednesday morning. Forecasters note that while thunderstorms are not expected, isolated downpours could reduce visibility for drivers during the evening commute.
Winds will shift from southwest to northwest behind the front, ushering in cooler air for the middle of the week. According to forecasters, highs Wednesday will only reach the upper 50s, with lows dipping into the upper 30s and lower 40s. Areas in higher terrain east of Pittsburgh, including Indiana and Somerset counties, could see patchy frost by early Thursday if skies clear overnight.
Travelers along I-79, I-76, and Route 22 should anticipate wet roads and brief crosswinds late tonight. The gusty conditions will ease Wednesday morning as drier, cooler air takes hold.
This midweek system will mark the start of a quieter stretch of fall weather heading toward the weekend, with crisp mornings and abundant sunshine returning by Friday.
