State College, PA – Dangerous heat returns to central Pennsylvania Thursday with a chance for strong storms, setting up a steamy and unsettled start to the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in State College, a Heat Advisory remains in effect through 8 p.m. Wednesday for counties including Blair, Centre, Bedford, and Clinton. Thursday brings continued highs in the upper 80s and heat indices nearing 100°F, especially in State College, Altoona, and Huntingdon. Combined with high humidity, these conditions could lead to heat-related illnesses, especially for vulnerable groups.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop after 2 p.m. Thursday, some of which may bring gusty winds and heavy rain. If traveling on I-99 or Route 322, be alert for low visibility and slick roads during late afternoon commutes.
Residents should stay hydrated, avoid direct sun, and check in on elderly neighbors and pets. Air-conditioned spaces remain critical through at least Friday, as overnight lows stay oppressively muggy in the high 60s.
Rain chances increase again on Friday night into Saturday, keeping lawns damp and air sticky. While Sunday looks drier, another round of thunderstorms is likely by Monday and Tuesday, capping off a humid stretch.
Warnings remain in effect, and additional advisories may follow if storms intensify.
