STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – Central Pennsylvania is bracing for a stormy stretch as showers and thunderstorms sweep across the region through Wednesday night, bringing the potential for heavy rainfall and hazardous travel conditions.
According to the National Weather Service in State College, storms will become more widespread by Wednesday morning, with rainfall totals ranging from half an inch to more than two inches in some areas. Forecasters warn that the heaviest downpours could cause localized flooding, particularly in low-lying spots and along smaller streams.
Showers are expected to begin late tonight, with a chance of thunderstorms increasing after 2 a.m. Wednesday. By daybreak, State College and surrounding counties including Centre, Clinton, and Huntingdon could see steady rain with embedded thunderstorms. The morning commute may be slowed by ponding on roads such as U.S. Route 322 and Interstate 99.
Drivers are urged to allow extra time, avoid water-covered roads, and prepare for reduced visibility during the heaviest downpours. Residents should also secure outdoor belongings and keep devices charged in case of isolated power outages.
Rain chances taper off by Thursday morning, followed by drier conditions heading into Friday and the weekend.
