STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – Penn State fans filling Beaver Stadium Saturday may notice the sky looking hazier than usual, as upper-level smoke from Canadian wildfires drifts over Pennsylvania through the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service, the smoke remains high above the ground and is not expected to pose health risks. The effect will be most visible during afternoon games and evening drives home, when haze combines with the setting sun for striking red and orange skies.
The smoke plume stretches from Ohio across Pennsylvania and into New Jersey, with hazy conditions also expected in Pittsburgh and Philadelphia. Tailgaters and fans traveling along the Pennsylvania Turnpike and I-80 should be prepared for glare around sunset, though visibility for driving is not expected to drop significantly.
Saturday temperatures will be hot and humid, with highs near 90, making hydration and shade a priority for fans spending the day outdoors.
Hazy conditions should linger into Sunday before clearing early next week.
