PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Western Pennsylvania’s stretch of sunny fall weather gives way to a soggy and breezy Sunday as a cold front approaches from the west. Rain and gusty winds will move into the Pittsburgh metro area late Sunday, likely affecting early commutes and outdoor plans along I-79 and I-376 by Monday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, showers are expected to begin Sunday afternoon and become more widespread through the evening. South winds will strengthen to 15–25 mph, with gusts as high as 35 mph possible. Rainfall totals will range from a quarter to a half inch, enough to create slick roadways and localized ponding in low spots.
Drivers are urged to slow down during heavier rainfall, especially across elevated bridges and the Parkway West corridor. Patchy fog may also develop late Sunday, reducing visibility across the river valleys and Laurel Highlands. Temperatures will hold near 78°F Sunday before dipping to the low 60s Monday under lingering clouds and a few spotty showers.
By Monday afternoon, drier air and sunshine begin to return. Tuesday looks partly sunny and calm with highs near 64°F, followed by another round of light rain midweek. The pattern sets up a true taste of mid-October weather—warmer days giving way to crisp, cool air and more scattered showers by Wednesday.
