PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Fall’s cooler side returns to western Pennsylvania today as gusty winds and scattered showers make for a brisk Wednesday. Afternoon highs will only reach the upper 40s to low 50s — nearly 15 degrees cooler than earlier in the week — while occasional rain develops, especially along the I-80 corridor.

According to the National Weather Service Pittsburgh office, northwest winds will increase through the day, blowing at 10–20 mph with gusts reaching 30 mph during the afternoon. The combination of cooler temperatures and blustery conditions will make it feel even chillier, particularly north of the city from Clarion to Oil City. Short-lived showers may dampen the region mid-afternoon before tapering off by evening.

Travelers should anticipate reduced visibility in brief rain bands and be cautious on high-profile routes such as I-79 and I-80, where crosswinds could make driving difficult for trucks and vans. Despite the chill, skies will begin clearing overnight, setting the stage for patchy frost in rural valleys early Thursday.

The cool, breezy pattern continues into late week before a gradual warm-up arrives this weekend, with more seasonable highs in the 60s expected by Sunday.
