Philadelphia, PA – Pennsylvania will see a sharp turn toward winter as an Arctic Blast settles over the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic from Monday, Dec. 1 through Friday, Dec. 5, launching the region into a Cold December pattern marked by falling temperatures and increasing snow chances.

According to the National Weather Service, early-week disturbances will bring periodic rain-and-snow showers to southeastern Pennsylvania, while central and northern counties may see more consistent snow showers as colder air pushes in. Accumulations are expected to remain light, but brief slick spots are possible during morning and evening travel windows.

Temperatures will fall into the low 20s, with teens possible in northern and higher-elevation communities. Breezy conditions could make it feel even colder, especially overnight. The early-week mix of rain and snow will transition to mostly snow showers for interior Pennsylvania as freezing temperatures hold through much of the period.

NOAA’s 6–10 Day Temperature Outlook places Pennsylvania firmly in the below-normal category for Dec. 1–5, highlighting a statewide cold surge consistent with the arrival of Arctic air. Forecasters say this setup may signal a more active winter pattern later in December.

While no major winter storm is currently expected, the combination of colder temperatures, passing snow showers, and breezy conditions may create travel impacts in parts of the state, especially north and west of Philadelphia.

Residents are encouraged to monitor local forecasts as early December brings a sustained chill and light wintry precipitation chances.
