PITTSBURGH, PA – A wintery mix of rain and snow is set to impact western Pennsylvania on Thursday, bringing hazardous travel conditions and a drop in temperatures. Forecasters predict rain will develop early in the day before transitioning to snow overnight, with slick roads possible into Friday morning.
According to the National Weather Service, rain is likely after 7 a.m. Thursday, with temperatures reaching a high of 47°F. Winds will be strong, gusting up to 15 mph. By Thursday night, rain will mix with snow as temperatures drop to around 31°F. A light snow accumulation of less than half an inch is possible, which may create icy conditions for Friday morning commuters.
Friday will bring relief with partly sunny skies and a high near 45°F, but the cold returns overnight as lows dip to 36°F. The weekend forecast remains unsettled, with a 40% chance of rain and snow on Saturday before temperatures drop to 18°F overnight. Sunday looks clear but cold, with a high of just 32°F.
Drivers should prepare for changing road conditions, especially on major routes like I-376 and I-79. Those traveling overnight Thursday into Friday should exercise caution as freezing temperatures may lead to black ice. Stay updated with local weather alerts and allow extra time for travel.
