Pennsylvania wakes to a muted, steel-gray morning where cold air settles into valleys and clings to every surface. Breath hangs visibly, sidewalks crunch underfoot, and the cold feels relentless rather than fleeting.

A Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect for State College and much of central Pennsylvania through late morning, with another advisory returning this evening into Wednesday morning. According to the National Weather Service, wind chills between 10 and 15 degrees below zero are expected at times, creating a real risk of frostbite on exposed skin.

Early temperatures hover near 10 degrees in State College, but gusty winds push the “feels-like” numbers well below zero. Travel remains manageable, though drivers should watch for icy patches on untreated roads, bridges, and shaded stretches near Route 322 and local mountain roads. Any snowmelt from prior days has refrozen hard.

Clouds linger today with limited sunshine. A few spotty snow showers or flurries may develop this afternoon, though accumulation stays light. Highs reach the mid-teens at best, offering little relief. By evening, temperatures drop quickly again, and slick spots redevelop as the cold deepens.

Tonight brings another sharp freeze. Lows fall near zero, and wind chills sink further. Layer up if heading out and limit time outdoors when possible. Pets should remain inside, and exposed pipes may need protection.

Wednesday turns partly sunny but remains cold, with highs near 14. Thursday brings similar conditions, though skies brighten more often. Late-week trends stay dry, but winter firmly holds control into Friday, when highs remain in the mid-teens.

Looking ahead, longer-range outlooks suggest below-normal precipitation across much of the region next week. Cold air dominates the Northeast, even as warmer-than-normal temperatures build farther south into early February.

Dress in layers, cover exposed skin, and plan outdoor tasks during the warmest part of the day. How cold did it feel during your morning commute?
