Pennsylvania – Wet streets shine across western Pennsylvania this morning, but winter is lining up its next move. Rain spreads across the region early, then colder air rushes in. By late today, snowflakes begin mixing in, and travel conditions could turn tricky fast.

According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, rain is expected to change to snow late this afternoon and evening across western Pennsylvania, eastern Ohio, and northern West Virginia. Snow may continue into the nighttime hours, with falling temperatures increasing the risk for hazardous travel.

In Pittsburgh, rain becomes steady by midday, then transitions to snow as temperatures drop into the 30s and then the teens overnight. Accumulations appear light for now, generally under an inch in the city, but visibility may briefly drop during heavier snow showers. Hills, bridges, and ramps could become slick quickly.

Drivers along I-79, I-376, and Route 28 should plan for slower travel this evening. Gusty winds add another layer of difficulty, pushing cold air into the region and accelerating flash freezing once precipitation ends.

Thursday remains wintry. Snow showers linger into the morning, then taper. Highs reach the low 30s, but wind chills stay colder. Any untreated surfaces may remain icy through the day.

Another system arrives Friday. Snow is likely again, with better chances for measurable accumulation. While totals remain uncertain, repeated rounds of snow could cause renewed travel impacts before the weekend.

Saturday stays active with additional snow chances, followed by colder, quieter weather Sunday. Looking ahead to Jan. 19–23, NOAA outlooks suggest near-normal precipitation but continued cold across the Upper Ohio Valley, keeping winter hazards in play.
