Pittsburgh, PA – Lake-effect snow is expected to develop across northwest Pennsylvania late this morning, bringing slick roads and reduced visibility through early Monday afternoon. The National Weather Service warns that even light accumulation could create hazardous travel during the Monday morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 10 a.m. Sunday to 1 p.m. Monday for Venango, Clarion, and Jefferson counties, including Oil City, Franklin, Clarion, Brookville, and Punxsutawney.

Forecasters expect up to 3 inches of snow, with the highest totals likely near the favored lake-effect corridors. Winds will gust up to 35 mph, creating pockets of blowing snow and brief drops in visibility on open roadways.

According to the NWS, snow showers will continue on and off through the day and into tonight, becoming most persistent overnight. While accumulations may remain modest, the combination of snow and gusty winds will make roads slick, particularly on bridges, overpasses, and untreated surfaces.

The hazardous conditions are expected to impact Monday’s morning commute, with drivers urged to allow extra travel time and use caution on secondary roads and rural routes.

Motorists can check real-time travel updates through Pennsylvania’s 511 system, and the NWS encourages residents to report snow totals via phone, Facebook, or X.
