Pennsylvania’s skies hang thick and gray over Happy Valley this morning, and the calm will not last. Snow is poised to spread from southwest to northeast late tonight, setting up slick roads by daybreak Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service in State College, snow develops after 1 a.m. with a 40 percent chance tonight. By Sunday, snow becomes widespread with a 100 percent chance of precipitation. New accumulation of 1 to 2 inches is expected during the day, followed by an additional 1 to 3 inches Sunday night.

Temperatures reach near 42 degrees today before sliding to 30 degrees tonight. Sunday’s high stalls near 34 degrees, keeping roads cold enough for steady accumulation. Drivers along I-80, Route 322 and Atherton Street should prepare for snow-covered lanes and reduced visibility, especially Sunday morning and again Sunday night.

Winds remain light Sunday but shift northwest Monday, when snow showers linger before 1 p.m. Highs reach near 36 degrees Monday, then fall sharply to around 17 degrees Monday night. That temperature drop could trigger flash freezing if slush remains on untreated pavement.

Tuesday turns partly sunny with highs near 29 degrees. Another round of snow showers may arrive late Tuesday night into Wednesday, mixing with rain as highs approach 40 degrees midweek.

Long-range trends hint at moderating temperatures toward late next week, offering a gradual move toward early spring warmth across central Pennsylvania.
