State College, PA – A line of strong thunderstorms is expected to move through the north-central mountains and portions of the Middle Susquehanna Valley this afternoon, bringing the potential for brief but intense wind gusts and heavy rain. The storms are expected to move southeast at a pace of 20 to 25 mph.

According to the National Weather Service, the best chances for these storms will occur between 11:30 a.m. and 1:45 p.m. across Potter and Tioga Counties, then from 1:45 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. over Lycoming and Sullivan Counties, and finally from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. across Columbia County. Wind gusts in some areas could reach 40 to 50 mph, with localized gusts as strong as 55 to 65 mph, which may cause isolated damage to trees and power lines.

Travelers should remain cautious, as the storms are expected to be brief but intense, lasting only 10 to 15 minutes at any given location. This could lead to localized flooding in areas with poor drainage, and visibility will likely be reduced during the heaviest rain. The National Weather Service urges residents to stay updated on local media and radio for the latest warnings.

This thunderstorm activity is expected to clear the region by early evening, but additional alerts may follow depending on storm development.
