Pennsylvania – Wet pavement darkens under passing snow showers this morning as wind funnels through the ridges, rattling trees and pushing flakes sideways. Conditions feel unsettled now, but a more disruptive winter pattern is lining up fast.

According to the National Weather Service in State College, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect through midmorning, with a Winter Storm Watch beginning Saturday evening and continuing into Monday afternoon. Light snow today may add up to an inch, while winds gust between 30 and 40 mph, briefly cutting visibility and making roads slick.

Travel across Centre County could deteriorate in bursts, especially on elevated roads, bridges, and ramps. Routes like US-322 and I-99 may look merely wet at times, but temperatures hovering near freezing increase the risk of flash freezing as snow showers pass.

Cold air settles in tonight and Friday, keeping daytime highs in the 20s. Friday appears quieter, offering a short window for preparation before the next system arrives. Clouds thicken Saturday, and snow develops late in the day. Snow intensity increases Saturday night, with periods of heavier snowfall possible into Sunday. Gusty winds could lead to drifting snow and reduced visibility.

Sunday remains active, with snow likely through much of the day before tapering late. Travel may be difficult at times, particularly overnight Saturday and during the first half of Sunday. Conditions slowly improve early next week, though cold air lingers.

Drivers should plan extra time, keep winter kits in vehicles, and avoid sudden braking on slick surfaces. Pedestrians should watch for icy patches where snow melts and refreezes.

Seeing snow where you are yet, or just cold wind for now?
