State College, PA – Drivers across central Pennsylvania this morning are facing a fast-moving and potentially dangerous snow squall, with the National Weather Service issuing an urgent Snow Squall Warning for parts of Centre and Clearfield counties until 4:15 a.m. Monday.

According to the National Weather Service in State College, radar and traffic webcams detected a narrow but intense band of snow at 3:18 a.m., stretching from Penfield through Lecontes Mills to Julian and moving southeast at 20 mph. Forecasters warn that this system is capable of producing sudden whiteout conditions, wind gusts over 35 mph, and visibility dropping to less than a quarter-mile within minutes.

The most significant travel impacts are expected along Interstate 80, particularly between the Dubois/Route 255 and Snow Shoe exits, covering mile markers 107 to 146. Conditions may change rapidly, with slick roads, blowing snow, and abrupt drops in visibility that could catch drivers off guard.

Communities under the warning include Clearfield, Woodland, Penfield, Snow Shoe, Moshannon, Grassflat, Morrisdale, Black Moshannon State Park, Parker Dam State Park, Lecontes Mills, and S.B. Elliot State Park.

NWS officials are urging anyone traveling overnight or early this morning to slow down immediately, use hazard lights, and prepare for extreme visibility shifts. Snow squalls differ from typical winter snow showers—they behave more like a summertime thunderstorm, striking suddenly with dangerous intensity before passing quickly.

Motorists are advised to delay travel when possible until the squall passes through the region.
