State College, Pennsylvania – Snow, gusty winds, and bitter cold are creating hazardous travel conditions across northern and western Pennsylvania today, with multiple Winter Weather Advisories remaining in effect through the afternoon and into the night.

According to the National Weather Service in State College, light to moderate snow will continue across much of the region, with additional accumulations ranging from 1 to 3 inches depending on location. Advisories stretch from the northern tier into the Allegheny Mountains, impacting Warren, McKean, Potter, Tioga, Cambria, and Somerset counties. In the higher terrain of Cambria and Somerset counties, wind gusts could reach up to 45 mph, leading to blowing snow and sharply reduced visibility.

The most difficult travel is expected along U.S. Route 219, Route 6, Route 322, and portions of the Pennsylvania Turnpike, especially near Johnstown, Somerset, Bradford, Warren, Coudersport, Wellsboro, and Mansfield. Snow-covered roads, icy bridges, and drifting snow will complicate both the morning and afternoon commutes.

Cold air is intensifying the danger. Wind chills are hovering near zero this morning and are expected to fall below zero later today and tonight, increasing the risk of frostbite with prolonged exposure.

Motorists are urged to slow down, allow extra stopping distance, and monitor conditions through 511PA before traveling. Snow will taper later today in central areas but may linger into tonight across the northern tier. Winter weather advisories remain in effect through this afternoon and, in some areas, through early Friday morning.
