Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – Strong storms are rolling into western Pennsylvania today, bringing a risk of damaging winds, lightning, and possible tornadoes through Friday night.
According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, the highest chance for severe thunderstorm activity is between 9 p.m. Friday and 3 a.m. Saturday, though scattered storms may form as early as 2 p.m. All modes of severe weather are possible, including straight-line winds up to 32 mph, hail, and isolated tornadoes. Motorists on I-376, Route 28, and I-79 should plan for low visibility, ponding, and possible debris if storms intensify.
Highs will climb near 83°F Friday afternoon before showers and storms increase late in the day. Friday night’s storms could be strong, particularly after 8 p.m., with wind gusts peaking near 20 mph and rainfall amounts up to a half inch or more in the most active cells.
On Saturday, the Spring weather eases slightly, with a high near 76°F, breezy winds, and a 60% chance of showers and possible thunderstorms. By Saturday night, skies should begin clearing with just a chance of sprinkles before midnight.
