Pittsburgh, PA – A fast-moving line of severe thunderstorms is sweeping across western Pennsylvania early Wednesday, prompting tornado warnings and posing threats of damaging winds and isolated tornadoes.

According to the US National Weather Service Pittsburgh PA, radar at 3:26 a.m. showed storms racing northeast at 55 to 60 mph. While some weakening is expected, the threat for damaging wind gusts and brief tornadoes will persist through at least 5 a.m. Areas under greatest concern include Allegheny, Washington, Greene, and Westmoreland counties.

Tornado watches and severe thunderstorm warnings remain active across southwestern Pennsylvania, extending from the Ohio border through Pittsburgh and into parts of northern West Virginia. The NWS warns residents to remain alert for updated warnings and to take shelter if tornado alerts are issued.

Wind damage reports are already surfacing, and residents are urged to secure loose outdoor items and avoid travel where possible. Power outages and downed trees may result from gusts topping 60 mph.
