Pittsburgh, PA – A damp chill fills the air across western Pennsylvania this morning as a fast-moving storm system prepares to sweep through by midweek, bringing rain, snow, and gusty winds across the region. Meteorologists say the first significant December transition event will arrive Wednesday, creating tricky travel conditions through the end of the week.
According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, rain is likely to develop by early Wednesday before changing to a rain–snow mix as colder air settles in from the northwest. Wind gusts may reach 30 to 40 mph, especially across ridges and open areas of southwest Pennsylvania, northern West Virginia, and eastern Ohio.
While total snow accumulations are expected to remain light, forecasters caution that slick roads and reduced visibility could cause brief travel disruptions during the Wednesday evening commute and again Friday when another round of snow showers is likely.
By Thursday, temperatures will struggle to climb above the low 30s as lingering flurries give way to a cloudy, brisk stretch into the weekend. Drivers should use caution as flash freezing could occur where wet pavement refreezes, especially after sunset.
