State College, Pennsylvania – Drivers across central Pennsylvania could face slick and icy roads overnight into Tuesday morning as mixed precipitation spreads across the region, raising concerns for the morning commute and early travel.

According to the National Weather Service in State College, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from early Tuesday morning through late morning for a broad section of the region. McKean, Potter, Elk, Cameron, Northern Clinton, Clearfield, Centre, and Southern Clinton counties are included, with snow totals up to one inch and a light glaze of ice possible. Blair, Huntingdon, and Mifflin counties remain under an advisory through midmorning Tuesday with a primary concern for icing.

Communities including State College, Altoona, DuBois, Clearfield, Lock Haven, Bradford, St. Marys, Lewistown, and Huntingdon may see rapidly changing road conditions, especially on bridges, overpasses, and untreated surfaces. Temperatures hovering near freezing overnight increase the risk that rain falling on cold pavement could quickly create slick spots.

Emergency officials urge motorists to slow down, allow extra travel time, and remain alert for black ice, particularly during the early morning hours. PennDOT recommends checking road conditions through 511 before heading out.

The threat is expected to ease as temperatures rise later Tuesday morning, but additional advisories could be issued if icing becomes more widespread.
