A major winter storm could bring widespread travel disruptions across the Philadelphia metro and surrounding states beginning Saturday evening, with heavy snow and possible ice lingering into Monday afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, a Winter Storm Watch is in effect from Saturday evening through Monday afternoon for much of southeastern Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey, Delaware, and parts of northeast Maryland. Heavy snow is expected to develop Saturday night and continue through Sunday, with precipitation potentially mixing with sleet or freezing rain at times, especially later Sunday.
In Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, Norristown, West Chester, Media, Lansdale, and Kennett Square are all included in the watch area. Roads across the I-95 corridor and surrounding suburbs could become snow-covered and slick, increasing the risk of crashes and significant delays. In New Jersey, Camden, Cherry Hill, Mount Holly, Atlantic City, and Cape May may also see accumulating snow, while Wilmington, Dover, and coastal Delaware communities could face similar impacts.
Officials warn that hazardous conditions may extend into Monday, threatening the morning commute across the region.
