Pennsylvania Weather Alert: Heavy Rain and Thunderstorms Hit I-95 Corridor in Philadelphia by Wednesday Morning

Philadelphia, PA – Wednesday morning in Pennsylvania kicks off with a flood risk and the return of widespread thunderstorms, leaving roads wet and morning commutes slowed across the I-95 and I-76 corridors. A Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect for the Philadelphia area through 6 a.m., as storms move inland bringing up to a half-inch of rain and gusty winds.

According to the National Weather Service, thunderstorms will develop between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. Wednesday, with the strongest rainfall expected around midday. Showers may continue into the evening, tapering off by nightfall. The city could see up to 0.5 inches of rain, with localized flash flooding possible in low-lying and poor drainage areas.

East winds between 10–15 mph will accompany the system, adding to the coastal flooding risk along the Delaware River. PennDOT warns of slick spots and reduced visibility on I-95, I-76, and Route 1 during peak travel hours. Drivers are urged to allow extra time and avoid high water areas.

Looking ahead, Thursday brings another round of rain with a 60% chance of showers by afternoon and highs near 77°F. Showers remain likely Thursday night. Conditions begin to clear Friday with a chance of morning showers and partly sunny skies returning by the weekend.
