Pittsburgh, PA – Heavy rain threatens communities north of Pittsburgh tonight, with potential for minor flooding along the I-80 corridor as storms move in between 9 p.m. and 2 a.m.
According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, a new wave of moisture is sweeping in from the west, compounding areas that already received about an inch of rain earlier today. The heaviest downpours are expected from Youngstown, Ohio to Erie, Pennsylvania, raising concerns for travel and local roads north of the city.
PennDOT crews are on alert along I-80, where saturated ground increases the risk for ponding water and slick driving conditions. Residents in Butler, Venango, and Mercer counties should monitor local alerts and avoid travel overnight if possible. Flashlights, chargers, and emergency kits are recommended in case of localized power outages or flooded roads.
This marks the region’s second round of heavy rain this week, pushing streams and low-lying spots near their limits. Rain is expected to ease by early Friday morning, but additional advisories could be issued if flooding persists.
Stay tuned for weather updates as warnings remain in effect through the early hours.
