Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – Roadways across western Pennsylvania, including Route 51 and I-376, could flood this afternoon as torrential rain continues into Wednesday night. A Flood Watch remains in effect across Allegheny County and surrounding areas through late Wednesday, with storms expected to dump 1 to 2 inches of rain.

According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, the heaviest downpours will move through by 8 p.m., but localized flooding may persist through the night. A Slight Risk (Level 2 of 4) for excessive rainfall has been issued, and creeks and streams may rise rapidly in Fayette, Greene, and Westmoreland counties. Residents in flood-prone or low-lying areas are urged to monitor alerts and avoid travel through standing water.

Thunderstorms could bring damaging winds and minor hail in isolated spots, especially east of Pittsburgh toward the higher elevations of Preston and Tucker counties. Urban areas may experience poor drainage flooding during the evening commute. Stay off flooded roads and have a backup power plan in case of outages.

Thursday Outlook: Rain and scattered storms will return during the afternoon with highs near 67°F. Rainfall will be lighter than Wednesday but could still impact travel and outdoor plans through Thursday evening.

  • Saturday: Mostly sunny, cooler with highs in the mid-60s
  • Sunday: Dry and seasonable, high near 68°F
  • Memorial Day (Monday): Partly sunny with a 40% chance of showers, high near 70°F
