Warren, PA – A Lake Effect Snow Warning remains in effect for Warren and McKean Counties from 1 a.m. Thursday through 1 a.m. Saturday, as heavy snow and gusty winds are expected to impact travel across northwest Pennsylvania.
According to the National Weather Service in State College, total snow accumulations of 6 to 12 inches are forecast, with locally higher amounts possible in persistent snow bands. Winds may gust up to 40 mph, leading to blowing and drifting snow and sharply reduced visibility.
The most hazardous conditions are expected Thursday into Friday, coinciding with the Thanksgiving holiday travel period. Forecasters warn that roads could become snow-covered and slick, with travel at times very difficult to impossible, especially in open areas and higher elevations.
Motorists are urged to delay nonessential travel, and those who must drive should carry an emergency kit with food, water, and flashlights. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation advises checking road conditions by calling 511 or visiting 511pa.com before traveling.
Snow showers are expected to taper off early Saturday as winds shift and drier air moves into the region.
