Philadelphia, PA – Scattered storms and a lingering heat advisory are causing concern across southeastern Pennsylvania heading into Friday and the weekend. The National Weather Service warns that a heat index nearing 99°F could persist through 8 p.m. Thursday, with more showers and thunderstorms arriving Friday afternoon, threatening outdoor plans and commutes.

According to the NWS in Mount Holly, the heat advisory covers Philadelphia, Camden, Gloucester, Delaware, and Montgomery Counties through Thursday evening, urging residents to stay indoors, hydrate, and check on neighbors. On Friday, a chance of storms returns by 2 p.m., especially around I-95 and Route 1, with highs in the upper 80s and brief heavy rainfall possible.

Heading into the weekend, Saturday brings likely showers and highs near 88°F, but cooler, drier air moves in by Sunday, dropping highs to the mid-70s and offering a temporary break from the humidity.

Motorists should plan for reduced visibility and slick roads, especially Friday afternoon through Saturday night. Rainfall will be spotty, but isolated heavier downpours can’t be ruled out. No widespread flooding is expected, though urban drainage systems may be briefly overwhelmed in storms.

Looking ahead, another round of storms is possible Monday and Tuesday, keeping the early week unsettled but cooler.
