Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – Heavy rain and possible thunderstorms could snarl weekend travel plans in Philadelphia as a spring storm targets the region beginning Friday night. Commuters along I-95 and residents across southeastern Pennsylvania should prepare for wet roads, gusty winds, and potential afternoon thunderstorms Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service, light showers will begin late Friday with an 80% chance of heavier rain and storms arriving by Saturday afternoon. Winds could gust up to 20 mph, with rainfall totals between a quarter and half an inch. Drivers are urged to reduce speed on slick roadways and avoid flooded intersections.

Philadelphia will remain mostly dry through Friday afternoon with highs near 78°F. By Friday night, clouds increase and rain becomes likely. Saturday’s high will hover near 75°F, but conditions will shift rapidly with the approach of thunderstorms after 2 p.m. Winds will strengthen out of the southwest as the system moves through.
