Stroudsburg, PA – A wintry mix of freezing rain and snow is expected to impact northeastern Pennsylvania overnight, prompting a Winter Weather Advisory for Carbon and Monroe counties until 10 a.m. Monday.
According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, the advisory remains in effect from 1 a.m. to 10 a.m. EDT Monday, with total snow accumulations up to one-half inch and ice accretion nearing one-tenth of an inch. Stroudsburg, Jim Thorpe, and surrounding communities are likely to see slick roads and icy walkways, especially during the early morning commute.
Drivers should plan for hazardous travel conditions, especially on untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses. Morning school and work commutes may be delayed due to slippery pavement and reduced traction. Residents are urged to use extra caution if venturing outside, as surfaces such as driveways and sidewalks may be icy and increase the risk of falls.
PennDOT encourages motorists to check 511PA for the latest road conditions and to avoid unnecessary travel during peak freezing periods. Freezing rain events are not uncommon in this region during late March, but even light ice can pose serious risks.
Temperatures are expected to rise above freezing by late morning, improving road conditions as the system moves east.
