Pittsburgh, Pa. –

More rain is on the way for western Pennsylvania this afternoon, raising the risk of flash flooding in already saturated areas, especially around Pittsburgh and to the south.

According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, a Flood Watch is in effect from noon until 8 p.m. Sunday for southwest Pennsylvania, eastern Ohio, and northern West Virginia. Scattered thunderstorms are expected to bring locally heavy rainfall, particularly to the Pittsburgh metro area, where urban and low-lying locations could flood quickly.

Roadways in Allegheny, Washington, and Fayette counties may become hazardous by late afternoon, with potential washouts or water covering low spots on highways like I-376, Route 51, and PA-88. Thunderstorms may move slowly, intensifying rain totals in isolated pockets. Officials urge residents to avoid driving through flooded roads and to stay alert for rapidly changing conditions.

This is the latest in a stretch of rainy days across the region, and even a brief downpour could overwhelm drainage systems. Emergency management teams recommend charging devices, checking sump pumps, and avoiding unnecessary travel during peak rainfall hours.

The Flood Watch remains in effect through 8 p.m., and additional advisories could follow if conditions worsen.
